“WHY?”

“Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?”
“That depends a good deal on where you want to get to.”
“I don’t much care where –”
“Then it doesn’t matter which way you go.”
― Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland

Before you start any journey you must know where you want to go. When you jump into a taxi, what’s the first question the driver asks?
“Where to guv?”
Imagine their reaction if you said “I don’t know just drive around.”

Here’s the thing.

Every day you jump out of bed and you get into your business, do you really know where you want to go? Where do you really want to take your business?
And if you don’t know where you’re heading, how will you know if you’re going in the right direction?

There is also a much bigger question you need to answer: “WHY”

Why do you do what you do? (sorry that’s a lot of do’s!)

Without realising it you’ve now got sucked in and consumed by the day-to-day running of your business. The weeks just fly by without you ever getting to do the stuff you once enjoyed doing so much. You and your business has changed a lot. You’ve lost sight of why you started this business and what you want out of it…..and if you don’t know, how do you expect your team to know?

I’m sure like me, you’ve had your fair share of life’s ups and downs; you’ve seen the nicest of people suffer life-changing illnesses and sadly, you’ve lost people you loved, respected and enjoyed being with.

Just this week I bumped into a dear friend who I’ve spent many happy times with, Roy is now in a wheelchair following a complication from a simple operation. This once well respected and very successful businessman is a shadow of his former self. And this reminded me again:

“The Journey Is More Important Than The Destination”

You must enjoy every day, you never know what’s around the corner. If you’re not happy with your current situation, take action to change it.

Your Action This Week…

Over the weekend think about:

1. What’s one thing I’d love to change in my business which would make my journey more enjoyable?

2. What do I need to do to make that happen?

3. When am I going to take action to make it happen?
